Mr. Doren has been a practicing attorney in the Traverse City area since 1977. He moved here from Lansing where he was an in-house attorney for Ingham County and before that was Law Clerk to the Honorable Timothy Quinn, Michigan Court of Appeals. Mr. Doren has handled numerous real estate transactions and litigation including construction disputes. He regularly represents parties in zoning litigation and administrative hearings. He is an estate planner and handles probate and trust administration.

Mr. Doren is the Village Attorney for Kalkaska. He is general counsel for the Traverse City Light and Power Department and has been since its creation in 1979. He represents the Charter Township of Garfield. For thirty years, he was the City Attorney for Traverse City. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority, Traverse Area District Library, Historic Districts Commission and many other organizations performing governmental functions. He has represented the Grand Traverse County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.

The Michigan state courts recognize Mr. Doren as an approved mediator for general civil cases. He has lectured at seminars on advanced mediation techniques and has been selected as the mediator in over 100 cases.

Mr. Doren has been the Chairman of the Public Corporation Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan which is composed of local government attorneys in the State of Michigan. Mr. Doren is a past President of the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys and Chairman of the Michigan Municipal League Legal Defense Fund (1985-1986). The M.A.M.A. consists of city and village attorneys in the State of Michigan.

Civic and Charitable Activities:
Mr. Doren is a co-founder of TART, the Traverse Area Recreational Trail, which is an off the road, non-motorized biking and hiking trail now winding from Suttons Bay through Traverse City to Acme. He is also a co-founder of the Conflict Resolution Service, Inc. which is a volunteer mediation and dispute resolution service assisting citizens and businesses in Grand Traverse County. He is currently the President of the Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation Commission. For many years he was a coach in the American Legion Baseball and Little League System.
